Charlie Chaplin parents were also actors, working in

music-halls.

His mother, known as Lily Harley, was a dancer and singer. One day, when on stage, she lost her voice and Charlie who was watching, came to her rescue and continued singing her song to a captivated audience.

That was his first stage appearance as a singer, aged only 5 years old.

Despite growing up in extreme poverty, Charlie Chaplin managed to join an Actors group at only 9 years old and it is only later on that he created his lovable tramp figure.
